Hey Roo!

Did you always know you wanted to work in the music industry?

Honestly, no. I have always loved music and am known in my friendship group for sharing new music but as I had originally pursued a career in fashion I thought I’d left it too late. It goes to show that with enough knowledge and experience, in time those skills become transferable.

What was your path into the creative industries?

I knew I did not want to go to university so a family friend introduced me to Vivienne Westwood where I interned in every department over three months and realised I loved PR. I then interned at many fashion houses, working my way up until I landed my first paid job at Tom Ford. I worked in Luxury fashion and beauty PR for 6 years before moving into marketing for a boutique fitness studio for 3 years. This was at the start of the boutique studio revolution and digital marketing too! I then outgrew my role and went out on my own at the start of 2020 and starting consulting for brands and met Alex along the way.

Was there a particular learning curve you remember encountering at the beginning of your career?

One big one that I’m still working on today is having confidence in your craft. Always remember you were hired for a reason, your skillset will always be different from your colleagues (in the best way possible) and know your worth! Also having worked in big corporations I learned to ignore the hierarchy and not be afraid to chat to the CEO or MD, they will always have time for you and they will always remember you in years to come. It’s a small world and you never know who you might bump into later in life.

What is your current role?

I’m currently heading up the Paid Social Strategy and Brand Partnerships division at Latch as well as a Digital Marketing Consultant for my private clients in fashion.

What does that entail?

A lot of networking and building relationships. My job is to elevate the artist’s presence in the industry through brand partnerships and a paid social campaign. I love analysing data so I’m always reading reports to optimise my campaigns.

What is a common misconception about the job that you do?

That I get lots of free stuff! Sadly those days are behind me.

What was the last track that you listened to?

Mahalia - Sober (Jarreau Vandal Remix)

What is the most rewarding part of working on artist projects?

Seeing an artist develop from small indie partnerships into more commercial relationships. Also, as I said before, seeing those numbers! It’s great to see a paid campaign work its magic with a healthy growth of Instagram followers and Spotify Streams.

What are the changes you want to see in the music industry?

More women, more cultural and ethnic diversity representation.

Tell us about something you do outside of work.

I host fitness and wellness retreats across Europe which is great as I’m super active and I love meeting new people but as that’s come to a halt this year I’ve started making my own scented candles for my friends and family, I’ve also started to paint but specifically wine bottles. I bought some glass paint and started decorating all my used wine bottles! It’s so therapeutic.

What artists should people be keeping an eye on?

My wonderful friend, HAIZ. I’m also currently loving Surya Sen and Yves Tumour
