Photo Diary: A journey through Lucia Garcia's lens

Meet Latch’s in-house photographer. Lucia Garcia creates powerful imagery for a wide range of well-established new brands and artists. Her work has been exhibited in national outlets including i-D Magazine and the Tate Modern, amongst others. Lucia works closely with artists and creatives on a variety of content such as headshots, press photos, fashion photoshoots, album artwork, and social media content. We’ll explore some of her work throughout this piece, using Lucia’s own words to add context to the photos.

The Shakers, 2016

“I met the Shakers a few years back fresh out of Uni and I was immediately trapped by their energy and their absolute madness. Everywhere you went with them there were fun, laughter and good times guaranteed – and a lot of cigarettes (half of them have now quit smoking). They needed some shots for their upcoming single ‘Kiss Tracks’ so they invited me over to their self-made studio in a condemned building where they lived for 6 months before it was knocked down.”

Rebecka Reinhard, 2020

“Rebecka has this honey-like voice and striking eyes that the camera loves so much. For her new single ‘Whale’ her creative team and I drove up to Margate on what could have been the rainiest day imaginable. Whatever the weather, however, we went to the beach and captured Rebecka in her natural habitat – she was soaking wet but still happy in her Swedish warm blood. We found this very Rock’n’Roll abandoned hotel by the beach and made friends with the previous owner who still lived there. Little did we know the dining room was like an untouched scene from a late 70s cafe. Everything was still in place: napkins, teeny cutlery and plastic flowers. It’s always worth knockin’ on that door and see what might happen!”

MINKE, 2018

“Leah Mason, who goes by the artist name Minke, exchanged London with Los Angeles and just released a seven tracks EP “The Tearoom”. She plays the piano as well as drums and can shut audiences down with her amazing guitar solos. We shot this on the day MINKE was filming the music video for her single ‘Bite the Bullet’. She gathered an all-female crew of 9 incredible women from around the world and I was taking the promotional stills. We stayed in this Airbnb with wooden walls and mid-century decor and dressed Leah in wonderful outfits and make-up. Whenever possible, always choose locations with wooden floors!”
